Did Microsoft really announce CodeZone? I did not see any indication here, it's not here, and couldn't find it here. But by now, a lot of people know about it. Hey, how's that for marketing? Appearantly, it was announced by INETA. But I can't seem to find the announcement there either.

Some people have a particular and strong opinion, like Hannes P, Frans B and Jeff P.

People talk about kingdoms, fragmentation  and communities created by the marketing departement. That won't work. Like Frans says, a community must grow, it cannot be created. But before something grows, a small seed has to be planted. It needs to be nutured, cared for and some seeds will grow into a beautiful flower, others will become a cactus. Anyone with a little marketing background knows about the boston consultancy group matrix. So I welcome this CodeZone initiative. Will it be successful? Who knows, but if you don't plant seeds, you will surely not have any flowers in the future.

Still, a problem remains, what do we do with all the cacti still out there?

The problem is that there doesnt have to be seeds planted, as there is a whole forest growing outside :)

I find codezone very badly executed. If you go to the dutch site, you end up on a site not affiliated with MS. huh? What happened to the dutch codezone?

And why is it even relevant where you live to participate in a community?

that is something to discuss April 8th. Already talked to Gerard about this. A more coordinated effort on this, and rest of the forest, is definitely required.

Codezone is a brand for developer communities. This initiative started about 2 years ago, but since MS US sub published their own implementation, everyone is talking about it. ;-)

Each country (CH, DE, UK, US etc.) have own codezone implementation adapted to the local needs, but all implementations shares the common platform and main goal - to support local communities and make them visible!

If you should have further questions, please don't hesitate to contact me ;-)

Being a member of the CodeWise community since 2003, I'm aware of the CodeZone background. In fact, the community site listed under The Netherlands on www.codezone.info is www.devtips.net. But this should become www.codezone.nl, hopefully.
